Caluwin 4.6, the latest version, is based on the results of the latest research carried out by the ift Rosenheim in cooperation with the Rosenheim University of Applied Science and the members of the “Warm Edge” working party of the Bundesverband Flachglas e.v. (German sheet glass association).

It contains standardised calculations of so-called “representative system Psi values” for various spacer systems in published data sheets which can now be officially used for the first time in conjunction with the manufacturer’s declaration (CE marking) of the Uw value of windows in accordance with EN 14351-1.

1. Window module
In the latest version of Caluwin 4.6 the rules for correctly calculating Psirep. values in accordance with the new ift guideline WA-08/1, June 2008 “Thermotechnically improved spacers, part 1: calculating the representative Psi value for window frame profiles” have been accepted for the first time on a 1:1 basis.

State-of-the-art window frame systems have been taken into account in the calculation, including wood-aluminium frames, and the selectable glass range has been expanded to include the latest types of triple-glazed insulation glass.

2. Facade module
As no research tests were “officially” available regarding the Psi values of thermotechnically improved spacers for various façade profiles, some real pioneer work had to be carried out in order to update the Caluwin facade tool, meanwhile highly regarded in German trade circles, which is used to calculate the Ucw in accordance with the EN 13947 standard newly published in 2007.

In order to achieve this a “single evaluation method via UTJ and PsiTJ” had to be additionally programmed, which is greatly appreciated by façade experts.

Furthermore, the principal task was to calculate, for the first time in a technically justifiable way, the general values of Psi specified in the standard for typical façade profiles for aluminium and thermally improved spacers, e.g. Swisspacer and Swisspacer V.

- This task was taken on by Dr. Feldmeier in the latest fundamental analysis of façade designs (W0712-5 from 30 September 2008).

For the first time it included definitions for Psi and fRSI values for façade profiles in accordance with EN 13947 tab. B1 and B2 for the Caluwin 4.6 façade module for all types of commonly used double- and triple-glazed insulation glass (with Ug from 0.4 – 2.0) calculated on the basis of EN ISO 10077-2 and their validity limits:

1. Wood profile with aluminium screw channel; construction depth 100 mm; Um,t 1.8
2. Aluminium profile; construction depth 100 mm
3. Aluminium profile; construction depth 200 mm
4. Aluminium profile, SSG (structural glazing); construction depth of 100 mm
5. Complete glass joint

In a further step, additional Psi values are integrated for the combination: façade profile/frame in accordance with EN 13947:2007 tab. B5-B7 and the definition of elements used such as windows or insulation panels is greatly simplified.

In addition to the calculation of the Uw and the Ucw Caluwin also includes the popular condensed water calculator. The formation of condensed water is one of the greatest concerns of all window manufacturers. Show your customers the advantages of SWISSPACER with regard to the formation of condensed water. It makes a big difference if condensed water already forms at approximately freezing point or if it only begins to form at temperatures of 10°C or below. Caluwin makes this clear and shows the differences.
