Why is the glazing edge a critical area for heat loss?

The glazing edge forms a thermal bridge between the interior and exterior of a building. Heat loss at this point is higher than in the centre of the glass, which can negatively affect Uw and Psi values, increase energy demand and lower inner surface temperatures.
